Superstitions of What Caused Princess Kaiulani’s Death

Some Native Hawaiians had superstitious beliefs of how Princess Kaiulani passed away at age 23.

In one story, the kahunas prayed for her death. In another story, a Puna prophetess predicted Kaiulani’s death, and Kaiulani thinking about the prophecy when she was ill contributed to her death. But the red fishes that were supposed to appear right before the death of a Hawaiian royalty did not appear.
