King William Charles Lunalilo’s Death

Today in history — February 3, 1874 — King William Charles Lunalilo died in his bedchamber, surrounded by members of the royal family. After his death was made public, wailings of Native Hawaiians were heard across Hawaii. The next night, hundreds of people gathered at Lunalilo’s home. Read more about it in “Death of the King.”
