King Kamehameha IV’s Death and King Kamehameha V’s Accession

King Kamehameha IV
Today in history — November 30, 1863 — King Kamehameha IV, known as Alexander ʻIolani Liholiho, died at age 29, leaving his wife Queen Emma. A year before, their only child Prince Albert died at age 5.
As a result of Kamehameha IV’s death, Kamehameha V, Lot, ascended to the throne at age 33. Kamehameha IV’s older brother previously served under his brother as Minister of Interior and Minister of Finance.
